NIH-Led Study Explores Prevention of Heart Disease in HIV-Infected People

Can We Lower Heart Disease Risk for HIV?

HIV-infected people have a higher risk of developing heart disease and stroke compared to the general population. NIAID researchers are assessing whether drugs normally prescribed to lower cardiovascular disease risk, such as aspirin and statins, are beneficial for HIV patients.

NIAID researchers are enrolling people with long-term HIV infections, including people on antiretroviral therapy (ART) as well as “elite controllers” who can limit the virus without ART. For more information, visit www.clinicaltrials.gov using the identifierNCT02081638
