How Do Viruses Evade Detection?
An NIAID-led international study uncovers how flaviviruses (tick-borne encephalitis virus, Langat virus, and likely West Nile virus) evade antiviral immune defenses by blocking a protein called prolidase.
The team also studied people with prolidase deficiency, a rare genetic disorder, and found impaired antiviral responses, likely accounting for some of the disease's symptoms.
